BlazingDragon's News

Hello!

For anyone wondering, I have almost completely recovered from my car accident and have gotten all the casts off. To celebrate being able to use all my fingers again, I put together this lovely piano track that I think is among my best. I would be honored if you'd give it a listen.

For Now, Goodbye

Now I have to deal with the headache of hospital bills and insurance settlements, but I'm happy to be alive and all that jazz. Thank you everyone for all the support you've given me, and look forward to more music in the near(ish) future. <3

The last couple of months have been crazy. I've been back and forth between Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Mexico, the Grand Canyon, and more, working and enjoying the sights. My brother was robbed of $500 in Mexico and had a gun pulled on him, I left and reentered the U.S. without a passport, and many bizarre shenanigans took place.

Oh yeah, and I broke three bones in a car crash.

I was working in Denver for my brother's moving business when it happened. My two coworkers and I had just finished loading a truck up in the mountains and were on our way home after a long day of work. Heavy snow had just begun to fall, and the roads were misleadingly slick. I was sitting in the back seat of the car on our way to get paid, and the three of us were making jokes and feeling happy to be done for the day. All of the sudden, I heard a stream of expletives from our driver as we lost all control of the vehicle. We had hit a patch of ice going around a curve and lost traction. Despite turning the wheel and pumping the brakes, we slid off the road and crashed head on into a large telephone pole.

My face slammed into the seat in front of me, breaking my nose. Smoke was billowing up from the front of the car and my head was in searing pain. My ears rang and everything was a blur for several seconds. As if from miles away, I heard a muffled voice scream for me to get out of the vehicle. It felt totally surreal.

The car was on an incline and I had to pull myself up out of the wreckage. I grabbed the door frame, shards of broken glass powdering my clothes, and pulled with what little strength I had left after lifting heavy furniture for several hours. My left hand screamed in agony as I let go of the door and crumpled into the backseat. Gritting my teeth, I pushed with my legs and found that my right ankle was stricken with a sharp, burning pain. Avoiding the use of my bad hand and ankle, I managed to pull myself out onto the frozen ground.

Countless vehicles soon lined the mountain road. Police cars, an ambulance, the fire department...It seems like the whole town came out. Not wanting to deal with the cost of an ambulance, I denied emergency transportation and figured I'd tough out the pain until my brother came to pick me up. That worked well enough until the adrenaline began to fade. My head pain, which had finally begun to settle, quickly went from throbbing discomfort to relentlessly pounding agony. Seemingly out of nowhere, I broke down and began to sob uncontrollably. Hot tears formed tributaries down my face and burned in contrast to the frigid air. I couldn't keep my breathing steady and barely managed to stifle the sound of my sobs. Despite the fact that what happened was an unpredictable accident, the driver felt a crushing sense of guilt. Seeing my pain would only add to that, so I put myself out of sight as pain escalated.

Finally, my brother arrived and took me to the emergency room. It turns out that I fractured my nose, right ankle, and left hand, in addition to taking a hard hit to the head. I was put in a knee-high boot and hand cast reaching halfway to my elbow. A stranger at a gas station later remarked, "You look like Hell."

That was exactly a month ago, today. I've since got the boot off and had a more proper cast placed on my arm. The bad news is that my left thumb is completely locked in the cast. The good news is that I still have total access to four fingers, allowing me to type easily and (frustratingly) play piano. Also in the good news category is the fact that the vehicle had crashed into that pole. If not for that, we would have gone careening over a hill and been in much worse shape. Oh yes, and I was the only one with anything broken.

So now I'm back home, watching copious amounts of Netflix, recovering, and writing music. The hospital bills and paperwork are giving me a bit of a headache, but there is a possibility that the insurance company will provide decent compensation for all this. I'll hopefully have the cast off in a week, at which point I can begin working again.

That has been the last couple of months for me. Hopefully I'll whip out some funky new compositions in the near future and increase my presence hear on Newgrounds. I've missed you guys and am happy to be back.

tl;dr: I got in a nasty car accident but will be okay. :)

I'm in Mexico and will be staying here for an undecided amount of time! This is my first time out of the USA, and I'm already having an awesome experience. No new music for now, but I'll start composing again when I get back to the states. :D

Happy New Year everyone!

To kick off 2013, I've just uploaded a new song called Never Wake Me Up by my sister Summer Garcia. She is an incredibly talented singer/songwriter who constantly inspires me to write new music, and I want to introduce the Newgrounds community to her work. Please check out the song and leave a friendly comment; if the feedback is good, I might upload more of her music! :)

In other news, I reinstalled the operating system on my computer, loaded up all my music software, and am finally ready to start making music again. 2012 was an amazing year on this site, and I'm thinking this year will be even better.

Thank you all for the continued support!

PS. Check out more of Summer's music at her page on ReverbNation!

Well, my computer all but stopped working and I had to wipe the hard drive and install a new operating system. Thankfully, much of my work was backed up, but it will take a while to reinstall all my software and be uploading music again.

That aside, this has been an awesome year on Newgrounds! I took 3rd place in the Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch, released a significant amount of material, wrote music for some great projects, and gained a ton of new followers. Thank you all for the support, and I can't wait to see what 2013 will bring.

Happy New Year! :D

Well, there is good news and bad news to be said. Being the optimist that I am, the good news comes first.

I took third place in the 2012 Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch! With the competition consisting of around 200 contestants, I did not expect to make it past the first round. At absolute best, I figured I might make the top sixteen, so I'm pleasantly shocked and very thankful to have made it as far as I did!

What I loved about the competition is that it pushed me to places I had never been as a composer. My round one piece was very typical of my style, consisting of sentimental piano with some light orchestration. The second round, however, had me composing an orchestral, adventurous, fast paced track. Since most of my music is very mellow, this was a big (and very successful) step into something new. My third track has been described as a fusion of jazz fusion and liquid DnB, an obvious departure from the norm for me! Finally, my fourth track was very cinematic orchestral theme with much more complexity than anything I've previously done. Here are links to my submissions:

Impromptu - Spring
Children's Overture
Alpine
In Remembrance

As for the bad news...My computer has contracted a horrific virus. It keeps me from accessing any file or program on the computer. I can't even open up task manager or the control panel, and my antivirus software won't do a thing about it. In fact, it looks as though every personal file on my computer has vanished (though I'm sure the virus is just hiding theme). After starting up, a program called "File Restore" loads on the desktop and tells me that a serious error has occured on my computer and caused all my files to become inaccessable. It says that it can restore them all if I buy the full version of the software. The whole thing is obviously a virus and scam. The problem is that I can't exit the program and can't pull up task manager to end it. In fact, the program is practically the only thing that will run. Maybe I can figure out how to run my computer in safe mode or something to take care of this?

Anyway, I can't access my music software and thus cannot compose for the time being. I'm using a computer at the college to write this since I can't utilize the internet at home. I'll figure this out somehow though, and I've got most of my personal files backed up. Overall, I'm more happy about the deathmatch than bummed about the virus.

Thanks to all of you who have supported me! I'm behind on review responses, but I'll soon go back and reply to each one.

Have you ever had a sudden realization about how busy you are and wondered how you ever piled that much onto your plate? That is exactly how I feel lately. My time is now being divided between a plethora of activities:

-Scoring the soundtrack for two games (an RPG and a Shooter)
-Writing music for the 2012 Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch
-Writing music for my Music Composition class in college
-Writing music for my MIDI Music Composition class in college
-Studying for my Jazz Improv Class
-Studying classical piano for my lessons
-Learning blues and rock keyboard (and a TON of covers) for the jam band I'm not a keyboardist in
-Learning jazz pieces for the jazz trio I'm trying to get going
-Learning music for the two choirs I am in
-Studying orchestration on my own
-Studying advanced ear training for the independent study I am taking in college
-Running the soundboard for a local church
-Studying recording techniques for my Intro to Recording Studio Class
-Finishing the basement and repairing the house
-Being involved with the school's Internation Club, Outdoors Club, and Academic Excellence Team
-Keeping up with my college English homework
-A bunch of other misc. stuff like hanging out with friends and family
-Posting random blurbs like this that are entirely too long

Thing is, I'm sure lots of other people are just as or even MORE busy than I am. I don't know how some of you people do it. Despite all the energy all the above is taking, I am having a lot of fun. My music skills are developing and opportunities are starting to fly at me faster than I can take them. That's a great problem to have.

Amidst all that chaos, I come here and post music, and many wonderful people respond with encouragement. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, as that makes my load much more bareable. I'll respond to all reviews as soon as I get a chance to breath. :p

PS. I made a new Jazz piece for the NGADM.
PPS. Check out everyone else's epic entries! (Yay for alliteration)

The 2012 Newgrounds Audio Death Match just finished its second round and my submission is definitely my most adventurous work to date. It's called Children's Overture and has the most instruments out of any piece I've uploaded. It's exciting, energetic, and cinematic. In other words, it's a step into new territory for me and I feel great about it. Please check out the piece and let me know if you like the new style! Also be sure to check out the other amazing entries from this round.

Listen to the piece!

In other news, I am looking to score music for an RPG (or other game). If you or someone you know is looking for a composer, I'd love to contribute to a project.

Finally, thank you to my 690 fans for your wonderful support! It would be lovely to get that number up another ten, so if you haven't already, follow my page!

It looks like I'm moving to round two of the 2012 Newgrounds Audio Death Match! This means that out of around 200 entries, I am in at least the top sixteen. I don't know HOW that one happened, but I'm thankful nonetheless. :)

My round one entry

In other news, a piece of mine called Mural OST - Drifting made it to the NG front page earlier this week. That was an awesome surprise. This evening, my younger sister pointed out that another piece of mine made it to the front page! I'm really surprised about this as the piece was just released yesterday. It is only about 50% done, unpolished, and apparently has really sucky drums according to reviews. -_- Not only that, but it didn't get a particularly high score or anything. Who chooses what goes on the front page anyway? Or is it automated? Oh, and the piece is an arrangement of the Gerudo Valley theme from Zelda.

Anywho, I'm pretty excited about the NGADM. I'll definitely need to step up my game to keep in the competition. I'm also pretty excited, albeit nervous, to be going back to community college tomorrow. Yep.

By the way, can anyone help me with those drums? I don't know what I need to do to make them better. Perhaps you have a tutorial you could point me to, suggested listening, or advice from personal experience? Please? :)

Well, I somehow sneaked my way into the first round of the Newgrounds Audio Death Match. That means that out of 190+ entrants, I have at least made it into the top 32. Here is my piece for round one!

Or Click here to view on Newgrounds

Also, one of my pieces is featured on the NG front page right now! I noticed this completely by accident. -_-
An immense thank you goes out to all of my wonderful fans. You guys rock my face. :)

Also, check out the other NGADM entries. They are amazing!
